Theology For Israel’s Restoration

Part 1

Gen. Jim

W E ARE TOLD over and over again by Israel-First adherents, Pentecostals, charismatics etc., that the Israelites are still “God’s Chosen People;” in doing so, they reveal the deep-seated dispensational conviction that God’s plan for “Jews” is for them to RETURN to the land of Israel—Palestine, and that is more important for them to do, than believe in Jesus as their Messiah! But those who study the Scriptures (exegesis) know that racial Israel must accept Christ Jesus as Messiah/Savior in order to be part of the Kingdom of God. “GRACE, NOT RACE.”

But these “Jew” worshippers won’t have this! No way! They say that the “Jewish” people still have a special status by virtue of past (Old Testament) covenants made with the Patriarchs—starting with Abram (late, Abraham). I have shown that all Old Testament/New Testament promises/covenants are based upon conditions—NOT RACE, BUT OBEDIENCE. In fact, Abram was never a “Jew!”

They Refused Jesus

THIS IS ISRAEL’S SIN! Peter, a converted Jew to Christianity, WARNED his “Jewish” audience: “And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be DESTROYED from among the people” (Acts 3:23). What prophet?: “And He (God) shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: whom the Heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. For Moses truly said unto the father, ‘A prophet shall the LORD your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; Him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever He shall say unto you” (vv. 20-22).

This “prophet,” of course, was Jesus the Christ. Moses’ prediction in Deut. 18:18, 19 that “a prophet shall the LORD your God raise up…like unto me,” had been read by the Israelites/Hebrews (now “Jews”) for years and years.

In what way was Jesus like Moses?

First: Moses was anointed by the Spirit (Num. 11:17); the Spirit of the LORD was upon Jesus to preach the Gospel (Lk. 4:18, 19).

Second: God used Moses to initiate the Old Covenant; Jesus brought in the New Covenant.

Third: Moses led the Hebrews/Israelites out of Egypt to Sinai and established the covenant relationship with (Yahweh) God; Christ redeemed His people from sin and satanic bondage and established a new, living relationship with God whereby His people could enter into the presence of God.

Fourth: Moses in the Old Testament laws referred to the sacrifice of a lamb to bring redemption; Christ was the sacrificial lamb, making the way for eternal salvation to ALL—Jew and Gentile—who repents and accepts Him.

Fifth: Moses faithfully pointed to the law and the obligation of God’s people to obey its statutes in order to receive God’s blessings (conditional); Christ pointed to Himself and the Holy Spirit as God’s WAY of fulfilling His will and receiving God’s blessing and eternal life. This was conditional: “Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…” (Acts 3:19). No repentance, means no salvation.

Not Jesus The Messiah

THE REBELLIOUS “JEWS” (for the most part) distinguished this “prophet” (Acts 3:23) from the “Messiah” (see John 1:20, 21; 7:40, 41); but the Biblical Christian interpretation believes it was/is Jesus (see Acts 7:37 also).

Heretics like the “Rev.” John Hagee and dozens and dozens of others teach the heresy that the “Jews” are special because they are “Jews.” But the whole New Testament repudiates this “chosenness/choiceness.” The New Testament teaches “grace, not race.” Racial origins mean nothing to Jesus. THE “ELECT” ARE THOSE WHO HAVE REPENTED OF THEIR SINS AND RECEIVED FORGIVENESS AND HAVE BEEN JUSTIFIED. First Peter 2:9-10 refutes this “race” heresy forever. Peter writes that, “Ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people…which in times past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”

Just what did Peter mean by all this? Go back up to 2:5:

“AN HOLY PRIESTHOOD. In the Old Testament, the priesthood was restricted to a qualified minority. Their distinctive activity was to offer sacrifices to God on behalf of His people and to communicate directly with God (Ex. 19:6; 28:1; 2 Chr. 29:11). Now through Jesus Christ, every Christian has been made a priest before God (Rev. 1:6; 5:10; 20:6). The priesthood of all believers means the following:

(1) All believers have direct access to God through Christ (John 3:18; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Eph. 2:18).

(2) All believers are under obligation to live a holy life (1 Peter 1:14-17; 2:5, 9).

(3) All believers must offer up “spiritual sacrifices” to God, including:

     (a) living in obedience to God and nonconformity to the world (Rom. 12:1-2);

     (b) praying to and praising God (Ps. 50:14; Heb. 13:15);

     (c) serving with whole hearts and willing minds (1 Chr. 28:9; Eph. 5:1-2; Phil. 2:17);

     (d) performing good deeds (Heb. 13:16);

     (e) giving of our material possessions (Rom. 12:13; Phil. 4:18); and

     (f) presenting our bodies to God as instruments of righteousness (Rom. 6:13, 19).

(4) All believers must intercede and pray for one another and for all people (Col. 4:12; 1 Tim. 2:1; Rev. 8:3).

(5) All believers must declare the Word and pray for its success (1 Peter 2: 9; 3:15; Acts 4:31; 1 Cor. 14:26; 2 Thes. 3:1; Heb. 13:15).

(6) All believers may administer baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Mat 28:19; Luke 22:19).

2:9 AN HOLY NATION. Believers are set apart from the world in order to belong completely to God (cf. Acts 20:28; Tit 2:14) and to proclaim the gospel of salvation to His glory and praise (cf. Ex. 19:6; Is. 43:20-21).

2:11 STRANGERS AND PILGRIMS. Our new position as God’s own possession sets us apart from the people of this world to become pilgrims in this world. We now live in a country to which we do not belong, and our true citizenship is with Christ in heaven (cf. Phil. 3:20; Heb. 11:9-16). Because we are foreigners upon this earth, we must abstain from the evil pleasures of this world which seek to destroy our souls. (End Quote)

As to what you find in the Old Testament concerning the racial Jews and their position/relationship with God, the New Testament shows us the counter-part.

The word “chosen” is never used in the New Testament exclusively of the (racial) Jewish people—apart from members of the new Ekklesia of Christ, who are the “chosen ones,” i.e., “Israel of God.”

In Galatians 4, it is taught that “Jews” are the descendants of Hagar and Ishmael (see Gal. 4:21-28).

Outsiders!

THE HEBREWS/ISRAELITES of the Old Testament were insiders; those who rejected Christ (and reject Christ presently) are outsiders—i.e., outside the covenant of grace. Paul, in Gal. 4:30, plainly writes to, “Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”

Clean VS. Unclean

REMEMBER THE VISION Peter had in Acts 10:11-16. This vision from God showed Peter that there were no distinctions between “Jew” (clean) and Gentile (unclean). Both are accepted as equal in the Kingdom of God. Peter realized that God had no FAVORITES (Acts 10:34, 35). So, the true followers of Christ are Abraham’s children according to promise.

This Darby/Scofield Dispensationalism insistence on a distinct cleavage—split—between Israel (racial) and the New Testament Ekklesia, and its UNBiblical belief in a later Unconditional fulfillment of the Abrahamic Covenant, sets it apart from the Biblical/historical faith of the Ekklesia.

This is what we are currently looking at: “racial Israel still is God’s favorite,” howbeit, she is in TOTAL DENIAL of Jesus the Messiah.

This “Israel is God’s Chosen People” heresy necessitates that, “God had given them the land of Canaan in perpetuity–that the Old Testament prophets promised; God would RESTORE Israel and bring them back to their land in the future (End Days), never, ever to disperse them again…Israel would become the capital H.Q. for all time, for all nations.” In turn, to satisfy this heresy, “Christian Zionists” and others began to modify their previous eschatology to take account of the fact that Jewish people were returning to “the land in unbelief” (see my trilogy on the “Rapture,” which goes into detail on the heresy of dispensationalism).

Since 1948, Christian Zionists at el have been active in helping to facilitate Jewish people in the diaspora to make aliyah and return to Palestine. Years before, this became a reality—BY MAN, not God—there were “Christians” preaching the return of “Jews” to their homeland. In my trilogy I show how Darby believed dispensationally that the “Jews” would eventually be restored to RULE THE WORLD. He insisted that after the “rapture of the Church” (—those precious saints TAKEN to Heaven), those sinful Jews/Gentiles would be LEFT BEHIND—to suffer Hell on earth!: “Under the influence and direction of the antichrist…the Jews will unite themselves to him, in a state of rebellion, to make war with the Lamb (of God)…Satan will then be displayed, who will unite the Jews with this apostate prince against Heaven…a remnant of the Jews is delivered and antichrist destroyed! (See Darby’s, “The Hope of the Church of God, in Collected Writings,” Vol. 2, Prophetic 1, p. 379).

Of course, over the years, MANY different interpretations/explanations have come forth (see our Rapture trilogy for more). There are literally bookshelves full of “End Time” books—mostly all pro-Israel.

Scofield’s Delineations

MARGARET MACDONALD, Irving, Darby, and Scofield are BIG names among the pro-Israel crowd. It was Ms. MacDonald who started this insane and UNscriptural teaching about a pre-tribulation rapture of the Church in the early 1800s. Scofield came along with his foot-noted Bible, giving proof-texts that Israel would be restored/regathered to Palestine. His notes provide a detailed explanation of all this “Jewish” nonsense. In my first 5 years in a Pentecostal organization, I was taught—TAUGHT all this UNBiblical stuff. I had to discard my Scofield Bible in order to “rupture the rapture” teaching.

Scofield popularized the “return of Israel to Palestine”—in which she would be restored completely at the return of the Lord as King under the Davidic Covenant (see his Reference Bible, note, p. 25). He believed in a literalist hermeneutic view.

If one looks at his note accompanying Deut. 30:1-9, one will see where he delineates 7 parts under, “The Palestinian Covenant” (footnote 1, p. 250).

They go like this:

1. Dispersion for disobedience;

2. Future repentance of Israel while in the dispersion;

3. Return of the Lord;

4. Restoration to the land;

5. National conversion;

6. Judgment of Israel’s enemies;

7. National prosperity

He gives Scripture texts after each point.

For number 7, “Israel’s prosperity,” he has Amos 9:9-14. Verses 14 and 15 should be read together: “And I will bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; they shall also make gardens, and eat the fruit of them. And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the LORD thy God.”

He uses these verses as proof-texts for the End Days. Small problem, these texts do not refer to our day (future).

Again, there were conditions to meet for Israel to be planted back in the land where, “they shall be no more pulled up” (Amos 9:15). They went.

Amos predicted Israel’s doom and restoration. The phrase, “In that day I will raise up the booth (tabernacle) of David that is fallen and repair its breaches, and raise up its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old” (9:11), refers to the Kingdom of David, which had fallen. This language reflects a time after the fall of Jerusalem in 586 BC. Israel’s return from captivity (in Babylon) is what Amos was referring to...not many centuries later—like 21st Century End Times—in the future.

This “Day” came when Jesus performed His ministry, died, and birthed the New Israel. Verse 12 says, “That they may possess the remnant of Edom and of all the nations that are called by My name, says the Lord Who does this.” We know Israel remained very small, but Jesus’ New Israel became WORLDWIDE. We can’t say that about David’s empire that was to be raised up, Amos used Spiritual insight (see Ps. 47:8, 9).

Acts 15:15-17

“AND TO THIS AGREE the words of the prophets; as it is written, After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.”

This pastor of the Ekklesia at Jerusalem quoted Amos 9:11, 12 as evidence that the Gentiles would be brought into the Kingdom of God, just as Paul and Jesus both proclaimed. Meaning racial Israel would be replaced by “spiritual Israel.” But notice the word “Edom” was changed to “men,” and the expression, “says the LORD, who has made these things known.” Verse 12 must not be understood as saying that Israel will reconquer ALL her ancient foes. Yet this is exactly what the Zionists are pushing for as I write. They have STOLEN lots of Palestinians lands, and have the “Greater Israel Project” in mind—taking out 7 Arab nations in 5 years—with the U.S. military doing their DIRTY WORK!!

Amos 9:15 is not about ancient, racial Israel being planted and never plucked up again, but about God’s New Israel. Spiritual Canaan’s land is the Christian’s home.

All this dispensationalism and these ultra-literal futurist claims of the “Christian Zionists” can’t be trusted...yet they push these heresies provoking “racial” Israel to murder Arabs and Arab Christians that stand in the way of THEIR interpretation of Scripture.

Acts 15:13-17 cannot be used for racial Israel’s third return. James, the brother of Jesus, merely quoted from Amos to show that Pentecost had been predicted centuries ago, promising that Gentiles would also seek the Lord along with the racial Jews. Scofield uses the above verses to “prove” that racial Israel is in question...not the Ekklesia of God (see his false claim in his Ref. Bible, footnote 1, pp. 1169-70).

It is really stupid for God to rebuild the tabernacle of David in a literal/permanent sense. But even stupider is the rebuilding of the Temple—to offer sacrifices—since Jesus, on the Cross, said, “It is finished”: no more sacrifices; Christ was/is The Lamb of God slain for men’s sins!

Matt. 24?

THE FIG TREE in Matt. 24 is used as proof for a future restoration of Israel (see Battle Cry Sounding issue 249, pp. 1-4 for the “fig tree” examination). There is nothing in Matt. 24 about a future restoration of Israel 2,000 years down the road. The New Testament is SILENT on a 3rd regathering to Palestine...but these heretics keep their LIE front-and-center. All those “proof texts” they hurl at us refer either to the 1st or 2nd regathering, as does Amos, to Pentecost.

True Bible scholars point out that it is significant that following the rebuilding of Solomon’s temple in 516 BC, there are NO Biblical references to any future return to the land. They point out that when Paul lists the present benefits that still pertain to the “Jewish” people in Rom. 9, he does not mention the land or kingdom as one of them.

Jesus Said…

HAVE WE FORGOTTEN what Jesus said in Matt. 21:43? Let me quote it: “Therefore I tell you that the Kingdom of God will be taken AWAY FROM You AND GIVEN to a people who will produce the fruits of it.” He said in essence that the subjects of the Kingdom, that is, UNbelieving “Jews,” “shall be CAST OUT INTO OUTER DARKNESS: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth” (Mt. 8:12). Are we to believe Jesus, or these “Jew-idol” worshippers?

That’s not all folks, Jesus also said of those who were first/originally invited, but rejected the call, that NONE, “shall taste of My supper” (Lk. 14:15-24).

We can’t do anything but accept the fact that racial Israel’s rejection of Messiah signaled the END of the nation of Israel as, “the chosen people of God.”

Bible scholars argue that “a people” (Gk. ethnos, Strong’s G1484) suggests not just a change of leadership, but that the very composition of “the people” of God was to change—a New Israel, converted Jew/Gentile, would come forth. But the New Scofield Study Bible claims the opposite: the KOG shall be taken from the bad leaders of Israel and be given to better leadership in Israel. This is very STUPID! and UNBiblical!

BOTH MODERN “CHRISTIAN ZIONISTS” AND POLITICAL ZIONISTS HAVE DISTANCED THEMSELVES FROM THE “CONDITION” INVOLVED FOR RESTORATION, i.e., HEART REPENTANCE. All—ALL!—promises/covenants are conditional. I’ve written on this many times (see our trilogy on “Salvation”). Heretic Hal Lindsey has written: “To Israel as a nation were made unique promises…they were the only nation that was promised a specific plot of land, a city, and a kingdom” (“Road To Holocaust,” p. 197). Why did this heretic leave out the “if” clause? His books and discs would not sell!

Heretic John Hagee sees 1948 as a vindication of dispensationalism’s distinction between racial Israel and the spiritual Ekklesia. Hey, heretics, Israel being “reborn” in 1948, does not mean a thing prophetically. Even if the 3rd temple is built, it won’t mean anything prophetically...only if one accepts a priori, a literal hermeneutic/futurist eschatology. If one reads their books, one will discover that when it fits into THEIR scheme/interpretation/prediction, a non-literal interpretation is acceptable. THEY CONSTANTLY SWITCH FROM A LITERAL TO A FIGURATIVE STANCE.
